Fooled By Fertile Ground

It’s a nice experience to be anywhere in the world and visit a local market where you can sample and buy produce, treasures and the like. It feels like you are supporting local enterprise and people. I learnt today that the above is not always the case. Farmers markets around the state present sellers that have trucked in a range of produce that they have purchased themselves from another, larger wholesaler. Some items out of season, but offered to the market wanderer as ‘local’ produce. This clearly squeezes out the genuine local producers…at least denigrating their chances of selling their own produce from the area.
Is anything really the ‘genuine’ experience anymore?
This area where I stood produces excellent home grown potatoes of all kinds. No lies, no frills. Just care, knowledge of the land and a passion for sharing the real story with consumers.
