Enveloped By Printed Words…

The demise of the bookshop is understandable in many ways. The choice of online options is immense, the prices friendly and the delivery times adequate. Much press has been given to the issue of late.
I admit that I have not felt an amazing amount of empathy for the large conglomerate stores, but today I thought more of the issue. I spent some time gazing, perusing and wandering around two cosy bookstores not all that far from home. Small independent stores that contained couches, narrow aisles, alcoves and author’s quotes on the walls. The sea was not far away from these stores and they were quiet. One or two locals appeared asking the keeper for obscure titles. The world may have stopped outside for all I knew. Tucked away with words…
