Stakes And Wind

20 Jun

There are two earthy patches on the school oval that appear reluctant to grow. Temporary flag barriers have been erected to deter students’ shoes and (hopefully) reduce footballs bouncing over the area. Even with the good rain we have had, it is a slow process.
Being out on yard duty was quite an experience today. Each day is a novelty watching how the boys orchestrate a game of flowing Aussie Rules football around the prohibited section. Today the winds were whipping up into the 50 km/hr range which severely tested the holding strength of the flags and posts…and one’s kicking for goal. This stake was gone for the day…unless someone located a hammer…which was out of my immediate grasp and care.
