A Bookish Existence

Today’s entry was all about trying to capture an interesting take on one of my most treasured pieces of furniture; the book case. It’s the focal point of the room and just sitting by it is comforting. It’s made me go back to some books more often. I’ve stood back and mused over the titles and genres on the shelves. This becomes important and engaging; like the building of a music collection. When it’s full I will have a decision to make…but an enjoyable one.

Great post again… it got me thinking though, books are kind of screwed (just thought id completely destroy all my dignity with a bogan remark). borders, the only bookshop i could even imagine being still open in 25 years. is closing in geelong. i hate that so much. i hate the loss of physical media. sure i can get that album, fine quality, for free. sure i can fit 20,000 songs into an ipod smaller then my hand… but do i want that? or do i want the real CD in my hand. im going with the latter. alas im 14 with no job… so Piracy seems to be the only option right now. i keep telling myself ill buy them when i have money. but back to borders, that reminds me ive been meaning to take some pics of borders and write a post about it before it closes… and feel bad about never buying anything from the place, just reading it there. anyway great post. looking forward to more !

Hi Pete. Great discussion! You’ve touched on some really interesting issues. I have bought some books from Borders before including some of the titles in my pic. I will miss wandering around that store. But I agree with you. I think the future of printed texts is on jeopardy. I recently bought an ebook on my iPad using the Amazon Kindle app and I was reading the book within 4 minutes of making the purchase. Hard to beat that! Thanks for the comment. Rick
